"Here we have the antagonism...
...between individual scientific fields and philosphy. The latter, like art, wishes to render the greatest possible depth and meaning to life and activity. In the sciences, one seeks knowledge and nothing more--whatever the consequences may be. Until now, there has been no philosopher in whose hands philosophy has not become an apology for knowledge. In this way, at least, everyone is an optimist, by thinking that knowledge must be accorded the highest usefulness. All philosophers are tyrannized by logic: and logic, by its nature, is optimism."
Nietzsche, Human, All Too Human
Science asks, "How?"
Philosophy asks, "Why?"
Art suggests, "Why not?!"
and...
Politics answers, "Because I said so."

King of Calypso vs. King of Terror
Harry Belefonte (!) paid an amazing visit to Democracy Now! this week. Check out their podcast from Monday, Jan 30 2006 (you can find it on the iTunes podcast site) and listen to him eloquently tally "W"'s Bananas. He toots his own horn a bit too much at times, but overall, bravo!
NOTE: I think Belefonte is like, 80 years old or something, so his voice sounds a little funky, kind of like there is some DSP going on, but there isn't any DSP going on.
